Pierrefonds trip [Day 2]
Something like a hour before closing time at the castle, I thought I would be writing in this very report : "It'll be shorter as nothing amazing happened before our eyes - indeed, the filming was made inside today." This would have been one of the biggest understatements of my life.

But, let's make it in a chronological order, or I'll basically forget a lot of little things. So it will be less interesting than yesterday, more like my day hour per hour, which is only logical since it was a much lighter day than yesterday (even though, well, the end of the day was. Well.)

Morning : Pierrefonds castle, Camelot street, wandering staff, drawing

As yesterday, I arrived half an hour early. As yesterday, there was nobody there, since they filmed at night again. But with better knowledge of the vicinity, I knew where to head to in the meantime : to the Camelot street!
... which was closed. It was a good omen, though : it meant it'd be used later in the day, that they were preparing something.
... And indeed they were : as I wandered around, there were trucks coming to the street, and in one of them, there was the "English guy" as I call him now (one of the four men who worked on the street yesterday, and seemed particularly smiley), who recognized me, and nodded on the way. I love to see how... happy he seems to be.

The road to the Camelot street passes through here...

Here...

Here...

And you can see those nice ruins from this path.

And then you arrive to Camelot street (from a weird point of view here)

As I said, there were preparations.

Mum caught a glimpse of knights lazying around later in the day.

Then was the opening of the castle. And a most wonderful thing happened for the history and castle nerd I am : I was literally alone for an hour in the castle. I mean it. There wasn't anybody but the staff. It was so impressive, almost daunting. Hence a lot of photos of the castle (even though 80% of what I did came out too dark, so I can't put them) :

The view at the entry

All the same.

In the afternoon they filmed in both the room on the left (the Morgana/Uther discussion room, with windows, from season 1), and in the... hall in the middle of the photo.

Enter "Le bal des gisants", an exposition with plays of colors and such. Fantastic to be there.

Here what made the lights.

Some other photos hinting at clues from the filming, as I did yesterday, too :

Something used to film from above. Guess they used it during the night as it wasn't there yesterday.

Why is that a hint? Because yesterday that was hidden thanks to false walls ;)

Since there were still two hours before closing time, I decided to... draw. Don't have much time for that now, with my studies, so I took advantage from that. The French staff (of the castle) went to have a look =) I was a bit rusty but well, that was nice to do. And what made me laugh so much : the "English guy" came into the courtyard and saw me drawing, so he started to take a pose, and as I pretended to get serious and to draw him, he burst out laughing. Such a lively man, I'm telling you!

Then I decided to leave the castle before closing time, since I had gathered from yesterday that the staff would be arriving during the closing time. I wanted to, well, eat before that and go back to the castle to have the pleasure of seeing everybody arrive. But as I left I walked past, for the hundredth time, the French security member who's in charge of guarding the entry to Camelot street from the... regular street (ie not the castle). I decided that was too much to just walk in front of him whereas he seemed so bored, so I had a nice little chat with him. He's working from 8 to 20, it's fucking long, and he has trouble understanding how fans can just go especially for the filming =D (He's not interested in that kind of things at all, which I understand very well.) Then another guy went by and started talking with him - he is a former professional horse rider for filming, but had to stop doing that. So now he's in security and today he had to train the dogs (which were in his car) at lunchtime =D
I also learnt from them that there would be both filming in the courtyard and in the Camelot street (in the evening though for this one).

Afternoon : meeting awesome fans, watching an empty courtyard, seeing a lot of extras, and most of all, being the luckiest bastard in the world.

Meetings and arrivals

So I was back at the castle for the beginning of the closing time, ie the time at which the staff arrives. I hoped to meet mrs_leary, too, who was here yesterday as well and thought I had spotted, in order to get a photo ;) It ended up in us discussing and me meeting very nice people with whom I spent the rest of the day, mainly. Thank you very much for the day, girls, it was so nice meeting you!

So then the staff started to arrive, indeed. And around the end of closing time, Miss Redhead (gosh now I'm ashamed of not being able to give her a proper name, but well. She's kind of a P.A., I guess?) arrived. souzoukyuuketsu had a gift for Bradley, and asked her what was the most appropriate and not-disturbing way to give it, and as they had a busy day, Miss Redhead took it to give it to him. I jumped on the occasion, because I know both my shyness and my "I don't want to disturb them while they're working!" thing, so I gave my drawing to her too.

Then our stars of the day - Bradley and Colin again - arrived as well. Colin said hello to us while getting out of the car, all smiling as usual, and I still can't get over how nice he is to everyone.

Inside filming in the courtyard

After that, it was basically a few fans in the courtyard (there were so... few people compared to yesterday!), some staff members too, Colin and Bradley in the stairs, all waiting for the filming to begin. Inside filming, as it turned out.
I'll just sum it up : after Colin and Bradley began the inside filming - after a quickie session of autographs organized by Miss Redhead - it was us enjoying the empty courtyard for the rest of the day. And I don't mean that in a bad way at all, I actually find something great to just being there, in the sun, looking around, just... being there, you know. Kind of magical whatever happens. We did hear, though, Arthur's shouting something a few times, and noise of swords clashing. Colin and Bradley went out for a break or something at one point, if you must know everything.

The little improvised session of autographs

Changing the light...

Yes, I'm purely posting it because of Miss Redhead's presence.

The break.

For those of you who read yesterday's report, there was the brunette, who happily didn't have much "Sileeeeence please!" to do today, as there was almost nobody in the castle. There was also the funny-English-guy - not the one I've talked about in this post, but the one who, yesterday, got off his car when arriving to Pierrefonds and said "What a nice day!" to random French guys on the side. Yes, there are a lot of lively English staff members around.

Extras working outside the castle, part 1 : the knights

In the meantime, there was agitation in front of the castle, though. A lot of agitation.

Meet the knights of Camelot, learning how to master a sword with their dreary enemies, the mercenaries!

It was fun to watch. They were doing the usual "four movements" thingy that I think we saw already in... what, bonuses? At the BAFTA event? "En guaaaarde! One! Two! Three! Four!". Some of them had some difficulties though! And I must say those capes were not convenient at all. You often heard "Merde!" (= "Shit!") from the knights, getting tangled in the capes, ah ah.

Meet the boss in white!

Mum, I love your photos.

That was at the beginning actually, before the knights arrived.

This knight was actually all not so gifted. Sorry little guy, to be killing your reputation. We'll be looking forward to your improvements on screen!

It was at the beginning as well, learning the movements.

I guess that was the second part of the movement?

Muuum, I love your photos.

Admire the cape!

Resist, knights of Camelot!

Two of them seemed to master the sword a little better than the others though. They made some kind of a show fighting fiercely, as if they were deadly enemies, going as far as leaning against the wall of the castle (you fall, you die.) And then they were bursting out laughing. Gosh guys, I swear!

The bursting out laughing after the almost throwing over the wall.

After the battle...

The "Oh my gosh I can't believe it", also called "This staff is amazing" part of the day, part 1 : Colin

So after this little break in front of the castle, I came back to the courtyard, and spent some more hours lazying in the sun. And then Colin had finished filming, apparently, as he was going out from the castle accompanied by Miss Redhead. Looking at me, if I believed my mother. (That's exactly the moment of the photo.) Of course I didn't believe her. Partly imaginary, but representative, dialogue followed between my mum and I :
- They're coming towards you!
- No, they're not mum. Stop that.
- But they do!
- ... ..... Oh my fucking god they do.
Turned out, Colin came to thank me for the fucking drawing I gave Miss Redhead this morning. Oh god, god, god. I'm so thankful to Miss Redhead for that (to Colin as well obviously!), it was so nice from her to make this happen, they had no obligation whatsoever, they're working and oh my god.
It killed me that Colin seemed genuinely impressed. He was so nice, complimenting the drawing, asking how much time it took me to do it, telling me they had showed it to everyone, that they would put it in a frame at the Cardiff studio (!), and complimenting again. He seems so genuinely... interested, that's amazing, really. Miss Redhead was smiling too and somehow that made me smile as well. It was such a kind moment. Thank you so, so much, guys.

Then when he was finished fans gathered to get autographs/photos. Miss Redhead "allowed" some of them (okay, she had to stop them) before Colin left. My mum took photos at that moment, hence some close-ups of Colin, for you fangirls ;)

After that, I decided to recover from the shock by going to see what was happening outside.

Extras working outside the castle, part 1 : the peasants

Because the knights weren't the only ones present. Peasants were, too!

Meet the peasants and their fearsome leader, the legendary Marie!

Knights and peasants. Would you rather play with swords or... whatever the peasants are carrying?

And meet... gosh, we didn't give it a name? (Shall we call it Marcel too? Private joke, sorry. Let's just say a spoilerish prop was called Marcel by the girls.) It's a boy though. It's been checked personally by babydracky!

That was from where they were filming.

The "Oh my gosh I can't believe it", also called "This staff is amazing" part of the day, prequel to part 2 : Miss Redhead

And as I was looking at the peasants, Miss Redhead (I feel so silly calling her that, gosh) walked. I thought for a second "Oh, please kill me, it can't be what I think it is, right?" and yes it was, as she was walking towards me. She wanted to inform me that Bradley had missed the chance to thank me as they couldn't find me in the courtyard, that now he was filming again, but that I had his thanks and that he would thank me if he saw me.
... I mean, seriously, how kind is this girl? Passing me the thanks, informing me of the missed opportunity, informing me he would still come to see me. Nothing forces her to go to such lengths - I mean, such lengths, okay it's just informing, but still, it is so considerate! Oh gosh.

Waiting outside the castle : talking with the group and the extras

So after that, I kind of obviously decided to go back to the courtyard, because well. You never know. And then it was closing time, so we waited outside, and there were a lot of extras acting or waiting anyway, so that was fun.
It was back then that I definitely switched to french - sorry Mrs Leary! -, I was starting to get tired and well, I must admit discussions about aspects of the show are strangely easier for me in french. I was really glad to share our thoughts on the show with you, girls, even more so that they seemed to coincide pretty well :)
We also talked with an French extra (of whom I have photos from yesterday! It is the knight in the light, here, if I'm not mistaken?) who had filmed 43 days/45 for season 1, being Arthur's guard or a knight, and now he was a knight again. We talked about equipment - they're carrying around 6kg on their shoulders, it's aluminum but still -, how the work was organized - sometimes the writers change the script in the middle of the night, ah ah ; they don't know what they'll play until the very day of filming, basically.

Extras lazying around in the sun

The "Oh my gosh I can't believe it", also called "This staff is amazing" part of the day, part 2 : Bradley

And then Bradley came out from the castle as well, started to get into the car with Miss Redhead, and then I was severely pushed towards the road by my so considerate comrades ;) And he got out, voiced a powerful "Hello!" (that I totally didn't register, it was my mother who told me she was impressed by his voice), and told me he found the picture really impressive, told me the Cardiff bit too, and answered it was the best way to do so when I told him that it was my way of expressing my thanks. Insisted on thanking me when I insisted on thanking them, too. Once again, how nice are they? I mean come on, he had been filming since 2 or 3, was about to go back, and no, he goes out from the car and take the time to thank me. God.

Then I bid my goodbyes, and ever since I've been either on a little cloud (the fangirl part in me), either in awe of how amazing this staff is. We're so lucky, I'm so lucky, and I shall never forget that day.

Goodbye, Pierrefonds, and hopefully, see you soon.
